The Olive Oil Museum in Klis, Croatia brings you right into the heart of Dalmatian culture. Nestled in the historic village of Klis, famous for its fortress and views over Split, this small museum dives deep into the story of olive oil – from ancient methods to today’s craft.

Inside, we found a range of fascinating tools and machinery used in traditional olive oil production. It’s incredible to see the massive stone presses and learn how olive oil was made long before modern tech. The staff here are passionate and love sharing their knowledge. They even offer tasting sessions, where you can learn how to recognize the different flavors of olive oil – something I’d never thought about before visiting.
Outside, the museum gives you a chance to tour local olive groves, where you learn about the care and patience needed to grow olives in this rocky, Mediterranean terrain. Afterward, I was able to pick up some local olive oils and handmade soaps – perfect souvenirs that are also super high quality.
If you’re in the Split area, especially if you’re visiting the Klis Fortress, take a couple of hours for the Olive Oil Museum. It’s a relaxing, authentic way to experience local Croatian culture and appreciate the love that goes into every bottle of olive oil here.
